Adult Acne Treatments at Blu Cocoon MedSpa

Acne. It plagued us in the teenage years and, for many, it continues to pester us as adults. For others, it only appears in adulthood. If you are an adult acne sufferer you will be glad to know that you are not alone. This past Friday, Good Morning America did a segment on adult acne and apparently it is here to stay and on the rise (sigh!).

According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), “doctors say adult-onset acne is on the rise in women over the age of 25, as well as those well into their 40s and 50s”. Women seem to be more inclined to develop adult acne due, in part, to the role that hormones play as women age. Androgen levels rise and these can influence excess oil gland production which can clog the skin. Other causes of adult acne include a rise in environmental pollutants, increased stress, and resistant bacteria (women who treated teenage acne with antibiotics may have more stubborn acne bacteria to contend with).

Some women turn to topical or oral medications and while these may help, it is not recommended to be on a long-term oral medication (antibiotics) or topical medication (such as Retin-A or Tazorac) especially if a woman is pregnant, breastfeeding or planning to become pregnant. What other options are out there?

At Blu Cocoon MedSpa we know that there is not a cure for adult acne, but there are certainly ways to keep it in check. We offer a Corrective Acne Treatment that is designed to clear up acne prone and prevent breakouts. We soften and exfoliate the skin prior to extraction. A custom-blended mask draws out impurities to reduce excess oil and shine, leaving the skin balanced and hydrated. A complete skin analysis is also performed to help design a home care program that will continue to encourage clear, radiant skin.

Schedule a Corrective Acne Treatment by calling us at 408.295.2580. Your clinician will advise if you need a series of treatments – which usually yields best results.
