Blu Cocoon News: Med Spa Cosmetic Procedures Up in 2012

Have you been watching TV lately? Between the awards shows, the Super Bowl, and “The Bachelor”, we’ve discovered that winter is the perfect season to curl up on the couch and bask in the warm glow of the television. TV is at its best – larger and sharper than ever before – with HD (high definition) channels it feels like the people you are watching are actually right in your living room. Amazing!

What we’re also amazed at is how the sharpness of HD TV gives us the ability to see wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, and irregular eyebrow movement (@TierrasEyebrow from “The Bachelor”) so clearly. We can understand why many of the professional (and reality TV) actors and actresses flock to non-invasive cosmetic treatments to smooth out wrinkles (Botox!) and even out skin tone and texture (Jennifer Aniston admitted her addiction to “laser therapy” on Conan O’Brien’s show last year). Not all celebrities will readily admit to cosmetic treatments as Jennifer Aniston did but when we see their flawless faces and smooth foreheads, we know better. It’s all good!

The latest 2012 Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Statistics, just released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, proves that more people than ever are relying on minimally-invasive cosmetic treatments to keep their appearance youthful by smoothing out their skin, erasing age spots, and relaxing wrinkles. In fact, for the first time in six years, there has been a 7% decline in breast augmentation but all the facial treatments are on the rise:

  • Wrinkle reducing injections Botox and Dysport are up 8% from 2011, with over 6 million treatments done in 2012. At Blu Cocoon, 40% of our treatments are Botox, Dysport, and fillers!
  • There were almost 2 million dermal filler procedures, up 5% from 2011, to get rid of crevices, add definition, and create more fullness in the face.
  • Chemical peels, a quick way to improve your skin’s texture through exfoliation increased by 2% (1,133,821 treatments in 2012). Blu Cocoon clients love chemical peels. In fact, we’ve seen a 30% increase in peel services over the last couple of years.
  • More people are opting for permanent reduction in hair through Laser Hair Removal. 1,118,254 laser treatments in 2012 were performed, up 4% from 2011.
  • Skin resurfacing with a Laser Facial rose in popularity as well by 9%. 509,055 laser facial treatments were done in 2012.

The above stats are for the U.S. only so if you have a sneaking suspicion that an actor, a friend, spouse, or co-worker has had something “done”, chances are you are probably right! Medical spa cosmetic procedures are affordable, trustworthy (all injectables have been FDA-approved), have little to no downtime, and, most importantly, produce visible results that are pleasing. It’s clear that cosmetic procedures are a great choice if you are interested in maintaining a youthful and fresh appearance, whether you are going to be on TV or not.
